Bonjour Paris- Funny Face

THE QUEEN OF NOMZ. I ran into Ina Garten (the Barefoot Contessa) by my school the other day. She was charming, adorable, running late, and happy to take a picture. Kudos to you Paris and bisous galore to the queen of nomz.

lately

hey Paris, I’m back.

“Travelling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things - air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky - all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.” -Cesare Pavese

TRUTH. When I think about it though, even the essential things aren’t always mine here. I suppose my definition of the essential things tends to include: air, some sleep, wild dreams, crossing the river by Notre Dame, carbs, and coffee. I think without those few things, the towel might have been thrown in several meltdowns ago. That being said, I am happily (believe it or not) back in my Parisian paradise. My worst (or most challenging) days here are still the best days because I’m still living my own dream and that dream has led me to Paris. So here goes:

Paris. Paris is great, Parisians are another story. It’s funny how four little letters could change something so much. I’m over the Parisian attitude but certainly not over Paris. I am constantly finding new roads and cafes that could not be more picturesque. I’m simply in awe of this charming city, still.

Classes. I have new ones, thank God. I love them…so far. They are challenging but I really enjoy the subject matter and the chance to collaborate with other international students. I do not love the library (still enemy #1) and how professors list 8373 readings due each week without telling you which ones are actually required. I also have an 8 am class and that just might be too ambitious for this girl. My classes include:

-Education Policies and Social Inequalities

-International State-building

-Frenchy French

-Development Economics

Apartment. I couldn’t be more blessed and grateful for this little haven. I’m just wild about my apartment and area. Kudos to you le marais.

Goals. There is still a lot I need to accomplish in Paris and in Europe. There are several cities I must see but I also don’t want to spend every weekend away. It’s hard to find a balance here, that’s the real issue I suppose. I want to experience Paris and all of Europe. I want to learn to cook but I also just want to eat something quickly. I would like to bike to class but the rain would rather give me another shower. Mind over matter, I suppose.

Blogging. I’ll try my best, round two. Blogging is difficult but life is good.
